What are personality styles?

Knowledge & Information / What are personality styles?

Personality styles are the language of observable behavior. If you take a moment (or a few hours) to "people watch", observing how people behave in a given situation, you will see personality styles in action.

THE WORKPLACE WILL EXPOSE YOU TO A VARIETY OF PERSONALITY STYLES

Here is an example of how four people with different behavioral styles react during a meeting in
their workplaces. What do you notice about the way people interact with one another?

1) Can you picture in your mind the woman who is forceful, direct, who tries to get to
the bottom-line, and doesn’t want to waste time? She doesn’t seem to realize that any
one else exists.

2) Can you see the man who constantly talks and makes friends with everyone he meets?

3) Are you observing the woman who waits patiently for the meeting to begin?

4) Do you see the man who has all his facts and details and is on his own time schedule?

You know all of these people. In fact, you exhibit some of these four behaviors to a certain
degree. This exercise in observation describes the four main groupings of personality styles:

1) Some people are forceful, direct, strong-willed, and impatient.
We call these people THE 'D' STYLE

2) Some people are optimistic, friendly, talkative, and charismatic.
We call these people THE 'I' STYLE

3) Some people are steady, patient, loyal, and practical.
We call these people THE 'S' STYLE

4) Some people are precise, sensitive, analytical, and idealistic.
We call these people THE 'C' STYLE
